Vokmortian, Master of the Bone Tithe is foremost among the Emissarian caste and the first of many envoys of the Ossiarch Bonereapers that have been sent to parley with the living and enforce the Bone-tithe. As bearer of the Decree of Nagash, he holds a special place in the hierarchy of undeath, and even the Mortarchs must listen when he speaks.
It is Vokmortian’s task to oversee the harvesting of bones for the Ossiarch legions, a duty he undertakes with ruthless, calculating precision. Those who defy the will of the Great Necromancer are cut down with flesh-withering bolts of necromantic magic.
Additional information
When and how Vokmortian was created is unknown and subject to many legends. However, he does date back to at least the early Age of Myth. Some say that Vokmortian was the first Bonereaper to be created and that Nagash used a portion of his own body in Vokmortian's creation. Others say that he is made from the shattered remnants of a death-god broken by Nagash or is a being summoned by the cursed timepieces within the sanctuary of the God of Death. Yet others maintain that there is not one Vokmortian, but many, and those seen about in the Mortal Realms are but reflections of the true being hidden in Nagashizzar.
Vokmortian is a tall, skeletal figure with an elongated face and a spectral echo of Nagash' visage in his chest. For all his bizarre anatomy, his most prominent feature is the stone coffin that he eternally carries with him. No one knows why he has been bound to this sarcophagus; speculation ranges from it being the tomb of the being from which Vokmortian was created to a reminder to the tithe-master that he, too, is ultimately in thrall to the God of Death.
While he can speak in a booming voice to make the will of his god known, in quieter moments Vokmortian speaks with a deep, rasping whisper.
In one hand, Vokmortian carries the Staff of Retribution, made from the remains of those who had denied him and marked with the symbol of the Emissarian caste. Dangling from the head of the staff are heads of slain kings who constantly bemoan their fate - a warning of what awaits those who attempt to resist the Bonereapers. Some claim that these severed heads whisper to Vokmortian when not wailing at their misfortune, offering him the secrets to enslaving all life in return for being released from their torment.
His other hand holds parchment. Sometimes, it is an arcane contract, written on parchment made from the skin of dead gods with ink of liquid grave-sand. These contracts are so powerful that they can even bind the descendants of the signatories; more than one general has been stymied by the sudden realization that in times long past their distant ancestor agreed not to raise their blade against the Bonereapers.
Other times, this parchment is the Decree of Nagash itself. This rune-marked scroll is imbued with powerful spells of tyranny that can cow even the bravest foe, living or dead, and when Vokmortian raises it, the power of Nagash compels even the most wilful undead to obey the tithe-master's commands.
In addition to his authority over the undead, Vokmortian also has mastery of powerful magics. He can kill with but a touch and wield the power of the Shyish Nadir to smite the defiant or embolden his allies.
Vokmortian is a decent Kingsgame player, though he favours more complex tactics than do most players of the game and the game is not his true passion. He collects timepieces, both those of Ossiarch make and those made by outsiders, and makes sure to have at least one clock in his sanctum in whatever Necropolis he finds himself in.
